To Kaish, the canvases were “worlds in themselves, where through the very smallness of a window, we can glimpse the stars of the Universe.”

Kaish began making burntworks in the mid-1970s during her time as artist-in-residence at MacDowell Colony, NH. These burntworks, with their collision of geometric planes and their dramatic visual effects, call to mind intricate and unearthly worlds.
